PFC (Power Factor Correction) topologies commonly operate in three modes: CCM current continuous, DCM discontinuous, and CRM critical, PFC topologies have high requirements on MOS tubes to improve system stability as much as possible while ensuring system efficiency and temperature rise. Without special optimization of the control circuit and IC, the PFC topology often generates a large inrush current during startup, which can be 5-10 times the normal operating current, especially during repeated switching, which is a more severe test for the MOS tube. The MOS tube in the PFC topology is connected between the high voltage and ground, and the EAS capability of the MOS tube is also an important reference in evaluating its reliability when conducting safety tests. Therefore, when selecting a MOS tube for a PFC circuit, the switching characteristics (Ciss), EAS capability, surge resistance and ESD capability of the MOS tube should be taken into account.

The synchronous rectification control method uses the ultra-low on-resistance of the MOS tube after conduction to improve the forward conduction voltage drop loss of diode rectification. Our SGTMOS can provide 30V~150V synchronous rectifier MOS tubes. In the selection of synchronous rectifier MOS tubes, BV, Rdson, Qg, Qrr can be used as reference to select the suitable MOS tubes in turn. We provide SGTMOS with high Vth specifically for synchronous rectifier applications and optimize the consistency of Vth to make the devices more suitable for parallel use with the advantages of smoother load current and stronger short circuit resistance. We also provide smaller package forms such as DFN5*6 with better heat dissipation, which is convenient for board layout and thermal design.

Forward switching power supply in hard switching applications there are two kinds of single-tube forward and double-tube forward, for single-tube forward, because the transformer needs to add additional magnetic reset winding, in the main switch MOS tube off, MOS tube will be subjected to twice the input voltage stress, so this type of topology applications we recommend high BV MOS tube, in order to cope with the impact of voltage changes.

For the two-tube forward, it is a very stable topology, the operating frequency is not high, there will be no excessive inrush current, the requirements of the MOS tube is relatively relaxed, usually used with PFC in 200W ~ 800W adapters, industrial power supplies, computer power supplies or relatively harsh environment and high requirements for stability. In the application, we recommend GreenMOS with lower thermal resistance and better switching characteristics as the first choice.
